Questions & answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Here are answers to some of the most common ones, and you are always welcome to reach out and ask.
How do I get started?
I am on maternity leave until January 2027, so booking is paused for now. In the meantime, you can reach out through the contact form, by email at [email protected] or by phone at +1 (343) 324-6506.
The consultation is a chance to talk briefly about what brings you to therapy and to see if we are a good fit before booking a first session.
Who do you work with?
I offer individual psychotherapy sessions to adults (18 y.o.+) and couples therapy, and accept clients from all over Ontario.
I work with a range of concerns, from anxiety, burnout and trauma to attachment wounds, relationships and cultural identity. See all areas of focus.
What are attachment wounds?
Attachment wounds are the lasting effects of growing up with a parent or caregiver who was harsh, critical or emotionally unavailable. Some people call this a mother wound or a father wound.
They can show up later as a harsh inner critic, difficulty trusting others, or feelings that never felt safe to express. In therapy, we can make room for those feelings, understand where they come from, and begin to heal.
Do you offer couples therapy?
Yes. Couples sessions are 60 minutes and are offered by video. My work with couples draws on my training in the Gottman Method (Levels 1 and 2) and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
The fee for a couples session is $200. See how couples therapy begins.
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes. All sessions are online, by video or telephone, for anyone in the province of Ontario. Individual sessions are 50 minutes; couples sessions are 60 minutes and are held by video. What to expect from online sessions.
Can I see you in person?
Not at the moment. All sessions are currently held virtually, by video or telephone, for anyone in the province of Ontario.
Do you offer therapy in Arabic?
Yes. I am an Arabic-speaking Registered Psychotherapist and offer online therapy in Arabic and English to anyone in Ontario. Having an understanding of both Arab and Canadian culture, I am able to provide a unique listening ear to my clients.
How long are sessions and what do they cost?
Individual sessions are 50 minutes long, and the session fee is established at $170 per 50 minutes. Couples sessions are 60 minutes long, at $200 per session. As of June 2024, psychotherapy services by a Registered Psychotherapist are exempt from HST, so no tax is charged on session fees.
Sliding scale or subsidized counselling is offered on a case by case basis. Please feel free to ask about it during your consultation.
Is therapy covered by my insurance or OHIP?
Psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist in private practice is not covered by OHIP, but many extended health benefit plans cover it. I am registered as a provider with Blue Cross, Lumino (Sun Life), Telus Health (Manulife, Canada Life, Desjardins and Johnson Insurance) and Green Shield, and direct billing is available on request.
Coverage varies from plan to plan, so it's a good idea to check that yours covers a Registered Psychotherapist. See fees and insurance.
What approach do you use?
A personalized, integrative and trauma-informed approach, drawing on Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. Learn how I work.
How many sessions will I need?
Everyone's journey is different. I have experience in running short term and long term therapy as needed, and we can talk together about what feels right for you.
Is what I share kept confidential?
Yes. As a Registered Psychotherapist, I follow the professional and privacy standards of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and Ontario's health privacy law. There are some legal limits to confidentiality, such as when someone is at risk of serious harm, and these are explained before we begin.
What if I need help right away?
This website, my email and the contact forms are not monitored for emergencies. If you need support right away:
- If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
- Call or text 9-8-8, the Suicide Crisis Helpline, available 24/7 across Canada.
